LINKING
CRITERIA
As
you know, having good reciprocal links is an
excellent way to increase your website’s
traffic. Simply
because for every site that links to your site,
increases the link popularity of your site.
This in turns helps to increase your
ranking in the search engines. To ensure that
you have good reciprocal links, please refer to
Google Webmaster's Guidelines.
The
following is a list of criteria you should
consider when deciding to link with another
website.
·
A
Google page rank no less than 4 and greater on
the home page and a Google page rank no less
than 3 and greater on the page where your link
will be listed. However, please keep in mind that PR is dynamic and is
subject to change without warning or cause.
·
Look
for relevant and not competing sites for your
potential link partners. This includes sites that are related to your site's content
or common market audience.
·
Possible
link partner sites should have a direct link
from their home page to their links page or
directory.
·
The
navigation to your listing should be no more
than two or three clicks from the home page.
·
The
navigation link on the home page should be hard
coded and not a drop down menu or java script
that cannot be indexed by search engines.
·
You
should not link to any dynamic pages... (URLs
with ?, &, = characters), no jump or
redirected links, and no framed sites as these
link's page will not interfere with Search
Engine indexing.
In addition, you should routinely check
the code for "no follow" tags.
·
Make
sure that the page where your link will be
posted does not contain excessive outgoing
links. Google
defines a reasonable amount of links per page
as fewer than 100.
Google Information & Guidelines.
·
Do not
link to Free For All (FFA) sites, sites
considered Link Farms or other linking programs
that are involved in centralized link
databases.
·
Do not
link to sites that use linking software
programs, which can be misconstrued as spam or
attempts to mislead search engines
·
Be wary of sites that are hosted
on free servers.
·
When considering a site as a link
partner, the site should list their links pages
on their own domain. If the sites offer 3-way links, this is acceptable.
·
You should not consider sites
with excessive pop-up ads as they are annoying
and are considered a form of spam.
·
You should not link to any sites
requesting a reciprocal link to a page that
redirects you to other pages.
The reciprocal link must point to a
legitimate page.
·
Do not link to sites with doorway
pages unless there is a direct link present
pointed to the site's link's page.
Once you have reached a mutual agreement to exchange links between a
website/or sites then you should verify your
link's presence on the websites and that it is
active. In
addition, you should also protect your
investment and hard work by monitoring your
reciprocal sites for broken or removed links.
